In a historic district like Borgo San Paolo, it is important to remember the role that factory workers played during the Resistance.
Within this articulated history, it made us smile to discover what the hands strike was, of which we give you some details:
The hands strike was the name given to a workers’ agitation that broke out in Turin in April 1920, contesting the application of daylight saving time. This forced workers to leave their homes to go to the factory in the dark even in spring and summer. The protest resulted in a series of struggles and episodes of occupation of factories.
At Fiat Brevetti, the hands of all the clocks in the factory were turned back an hour as a form of protest.
